What the colour is telling you
Cover art is data. Colour Lanes is what happens when you sort by it.
Every game cover shouts in a colour, and most of us hear it without noticing. Cozy games lean cream and sage; racing covers practically vibrate in tangerine; bubble shooters live in the blues.
Colour Lanes takes that seriously. Instead of genre, the fair can be walked by shade — six lanes, rose to tangerine, each holding the covers that belong to it. It sounds like a gimmick until the evening you genuinely cannot name a genre you want but know exactly that you want something green.
The lanes also do quiet work as a memory aid. Regulars stop describing games by title and start describing them by lane — “the amber one with the kitchen” — which is, honestly, how the fair was designed to be remembered.
